Scoop Art’s New Artist: Patricia Salamonde

Life can take unexpected turns and redirect to new routes. Sometimes, in an unexpected way, art can find a way into someone’s life. That was the case for Patricia Salamonde’s professional and personal career development. Born in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, Salamonde studied Journalism and worked for more than 10 years in television until making the crucial decision of taking a sabbatical year in Buenos Aires, Argentina. There is no doubt that this city in particular has a very rich artistic atmosphere. Something about being in a new different place compelled Salamonde’s to start producing art for herself and soon afterwards to a much broader audience.

Taking as a starting point images from her hometown and other places she felt close to, Salamonde started expressing herself through color and abstraction. Her style soon emerged, but each series that she does differs from the next due to the way Salamonde explores different facets of her creativity.

In a world where conceptual art has gained importance and the spectator sometimes feels unqualified to interpret artworks “correctly”, Salamonde aims for a non-interpretation of her work and prefers that it please the senses, stimulating visual pleasure and aiming for a calmer aesthetic experience. The artist creates transparent, clear, vibrant works that strive to enhance and complement the lives of the people who admire them. She refers to herself as a type of  “Concrete” following the Brazilian tradition of artists such a Lygia Clark and Helio Oiticica, especially in the series that can be found in Scoop Art’s repertoire. Their subtle and harmonic colors and the composition make Salamonde’s work enjoyable and inviting.

Since she has begun painting more that 10 years ago, Salamonde’s has had the opportunity to exhibit in various countries and her work is now found in collections throughout Latin America, Europe and Asia.
